Unless I'm missing something, and I don't think I am, all those presumed savings are a great example of Innumeracy. What would happen is that - at a great cost and effort - we would increase the average life expectancy, say, by another 6 months or maybe longer. The result would be a larger older population -- and that cannot possibly be a money saver.

I'm all for healthy life styles, but not as way to decrease healthcare costs.
