"By supporting this in a bipartisan manor, it becomes a non issue in the next election." Oh... I donno if I'm willing to say that it will be a "non issue" for many more years to come. (Although it is clearly heading in that exact direction.) "If the republicans refuse to support this bill, they cause Obama to be there for the next four years." (Not to mention coming down on the side of Authoritarian 'big Daddy' government and against the principle and application of States Rights.)
