My view is that the oil release is a new attempt to do what we would normally expect to do with monetary policy -- goose the economy. By 'easing' oil prices, these clowns think that the economy will pick up speed and reignite growth (or at least hold back the tide of a deeper, longer recession). Cheap oil and cheap credit. Neither are really cheap -- and easing just sets us up for expensive credit and expensive oil down the road. Ask Greece how it feels to have been on the receiving end of 'cheap credit' -- feels great, until rates soar. With oil easing we will have fifteen minutes of cheering followed by a hangover that will get much worse much faster because of this stupidity.
