That is so interesting. I have been whiling my free time away...(what is free time;)... and reading a book by Danielle Steel titled Legacy. It begins very slowly and seems to repeat a bit to set the scene and then begins a story of an Indian girl, and how she got to France. The reason for the interest is that she is part of the genealogy of the modern day protagonist. Now the story becomes interesting. It is actually two stories woven into each other, olden and modern, and has been fun to read.

Danielle Steel wrote a book with the same idea years ago, however I have enjoyed this one much more. The Indian Girl and her background while cleaned up for Steel type readers portrays a background that must have been incredible to live. It allows the imagination to run wild. One can put it down to do other things and come back to it without losing any of the story. But... it is fiction.

Present day authors... ahem DE, might enjoy the way she told two stories at once.. rather cleverly ... one could also do the same with an historical novel.
