Property taxes are reasonably low here. Stamp duty is high except for first time owner occupiers. One indication though might be that there is basically no institutionally owned residential property in Australia. There are very few single owner apartment buildings/complexes either. The rental market is almost totally a market of individually owned condos.

Anyway, big news today. I got an informal offer of a permanent job at the level of full professor after my interview today. I don't even need to move office (currently in a temporary associate prof position). Been 4 years to the day almost since I quit a tenured position as associate prof in the US to move back to Australia.
