I'm an engineer and as such can not really judge the marketing strength, however Microsoft's one is well-known. Engineering-wise I'm yet to see a company (including highly praised Netscape) that was managed as good as Microsoft. One advise: please don't underestimate the importance of good management and engineering management particularly in the high-tech world.
