He called republicans a hateful name in public, for no better justification than republicans represent an opposing position to Democrats... duh. It was a purely bigoted partisan attack with no value beyond his demostration of how easy it is for a partisan extremist to express hatred.

Lots of you may say sexist, racist, and bigoted things in private, which doesn't justify that type of conduct coming from public representatives. It is the wrong thing to do at any time but there is no consequence for private thoughts, feelings, or expressions. Public attacks are quite another matter.
