USA TODAY Story [GTE] Thanks Tim -- for the European Early Warning. NEW YORK - Local phone companies are rolling out digital modems that create high-speed, 24-hour connections to the Internet and let people go on line and talk on the phone at the same time. GTE will announce Monday that it's offering digital subscriber line (DSL) service to large residential and office buildings in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago. DSL compresses data over regular copper phone wires. usatoday.com Whoops, I see John it posted earlier. I hope GTE has an early Press Confrence schedule. I also hope Pat gets a good seat!
