This is in the same category as Palin's claim that Paul Revere rode around and warned the British. There's a hint of technical truth to each claim buried under an avalanch of accepted facts to the contrary. These kinds of statements are dumb not because of their veracity but because they needlessly inspire ridicule and accusations of ignorance.
