What does it matter if the resources are finite?

In the long run we're all dead ... not much point in telling someone not to run their air conditioner today in order to benefit someone who does not yet exist ... "When you are worm food you will appreciate having conserved energy! Future generations will thank you!"

.. yeah that makes a lot of sense.
