7/1/11 Contest Update
Grateful investors might want to salute Independence Day by clinking ouzo-filled glasses in a toast to the week’s surprisingly strong rally.
At Friday’s close, the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 15.50% YTD (vs. up 10.64% YTD a week ago) and the Contest median was up 15.39% YTD (vs. up 10.43% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 6.15% YTD (vs. up 0.0008% YTD a week ago).
Fueled by ICGN, four Contest portfolios shot skyward and with a 20% ICGN allocation GENE’s portfolio launched with the biggest rocket. The ICGN boost was more than enough to zoom GENE’s portfolio (up 67.11% YTD) into the Contest lead. ROCKY’s portfolio (up 49.67% YTD) is now in second place and former Contest leader, MCBIO’s portfolio (up 49.35% YTD), is a smidgen behind in third place.
At Friday's close, 33 of the 38 Contest portfolios were in the black, with an impressive 19 of the 38 beating the high-flying NBI.
