I tend to agree. What i would like to see is a semi-private club concept, where quality, not quantity, reigns supreme. That's a club where thousands of thoughtful, open minded and mutually respectful people can advance and sculpt ideas that just might end up improving the national and international conversation. By eliminating the dreck, many more high quality, even well known, people might come to dwell here. The club would have a mechanism to quickly remove people who do not value the ideas of others, and who are unwilling to examine their own. This CAN be done fairly. Just a few unpleasant people can drag the whole system down and make those with good ideas go silent. A key advantage for the new ownership is that eyeballs no longer need drive the decisions. Now quality can be the goal. Hey, a guy can dream, can't he? "IF SI is going to become a free site, that is the end . Just look at Yahoo and Stockhouse, both completely useless."
