Clinton and the Democrats, in response to similar pressures from Republicans had balanced the budget. The federal government was running a surplus, and Bush, et al projected that the entire federal debt would be paid off by 2010. (Doesn't anyone remember this?) Their response? It's the taxpayers' money. The government can't run a surplus. (How then to pay off the debt?) Let's cut taxes. We see how that worked out. And don't tell me that Osama bin Laden brought down the entire US government on 9/11. It was Bush's response to 9/11 that did that. Long story short. The Republicans want tax cuts and spending cuts in response to every situation until government is small enough to be "drowned in a bathtub." We can watch state governments around the country to see how that is working out. "<< And posters such as i-node keep telling themselves that Bush was one of the "great ones".....typical of the fantasy fanatic world of the repugs... And btw, he knows so little about the USA Auto companies and the business. I am still trying to decide whether to even consider wasting time educating someone that has such a low base of knowledge.
