How do the wingers square this with the creeds of boy scouts and girl scouts (and at least the boy scouts, they claim to love). Churches, which conservatives also claim to love, are also about community service. Where the heck has Limbaugh been? Rand, damaged by her sad upbringing, and her weird relationships, her childless lot in life, sought to find a justification for her empty life- and, for her, the nihilistic cult of herself worked, for a while- but at the end it's clear she ended up sad, alone, and desperate enough to throw herself on the state, to suck out whatever cash she could at the end of her pathetic life.
What the wingers do not understand is that Ayn is a cautionary tale. Yes, you too can end up dying sad and alone if you think you are all that matters. A girl all wrapped up in herself is a pretty small package, and Ayn was one of the smallest. It's amazing to me that any Christian could even stomach her books- as her teachings are antithetical to the teachings of Christ. But when have people ever been consistent? No doubt the hypocritical Rand could have found some virtue in that as well. |
