And the ultimate answer is "they are all pretty much Brad's threads". After that they are pretty much every member's threads.

Ok. I"m coming late to the discussion. What that means then is that it is either Brad's rules or no rules, right? Does that really make sense? Won't it turn into mayhem since Brad can't police every forum?

if it is a thread discussing stocks, then this allows for the possibility of bias in who gets banned so that potential readers/investors only hear the positive opinions and not the potential negative influences on the stock. This creates an environment that is perfect for unknowing investors to be fleeced.

That's ok. Investors should be responsible for their own investments. It is also likely that the cream will rise to the top--ie great threads like the Microcap Kitchen are great because they allow for open discussion of stocks. Those that are clearly manipulative will not attract such a following. Let people think for themselves. Do you want a dictatorship or a democracy with rules?

If you have the ability to ignore everything that a member posts as well as the responses to their messages, why does it bother you what they may post?

Because people that don't follow polite discourse are often unbalanced and disrupt the thread to the point of lowering the quality of the content. They chase out the good posters.

Regarding your example, if the rules say 'no negative opinions allowed', then I am ok with banning the person that posts negatively. If they don't then if that person is banned, Brad should step in and correct the moderator's mistake.

I might ask: Is the status quo a problem here? I mainly hang out on the Kitchen and it is a great thread IMO because of the civility and the enforcement of reasonable rules. I'm just not sure that a dictatorship will work here and am concerned about the thread quality dropping to a ragingbull or yahoo message board status, at which point SI can kiss it's future goodbye.
