why do you care if they argue ad nauseum if you cannot see it?

Because for every person that doesn't see it because it is on ignore, 50 more will see it because they won't have it on ignore, and THAT will impact them: New visitors will leave and never come back. Others who frequent the thread will stop doing so. A few will become addicted to the arguing as entertainment. The end result is a thread with a lowered quality. I care about the quality of the thread.
