It also motivates more suppliers to sell into the market, which eventually takes out the speculators and creates oversupply conditions.

Of course, consumers NEVER complain about said oversupply conditions, since they're getting gas for real cheap. Such as during the recent recession when gas prices fell below $3/gallon for a while.

Difference between real estate and oil, however, is who's doing the speculation. With real estate, we're all speculators.

Who speculates on oil, besides traders and MMs? No one buys a gigantic tank of gasoline hoping to flip it two years down the road.
