Or maybe you had a huge down payment. There's a reason why you said "5x mortgage value" instead of "home value appreciated 5x."

Either way, you would have to have a lot of equity tied up into the house. Still pretty good if you ended up with a significant return on equity, and if you didn't pay much principal, that suggests a timeframe of anywhere from 2-10 years, which isn't too shabby.

I'm not trying to impress you. I'll just say that I don't envy anyone who had to live and/or work in Oceanside, CA. Or SLC, UT. Great place to ski, though.
