If no deal is reached on the budget that could provoke a huge financial crisis which could subsequently bring all the politicos to their senses (a la their response the day after Lehman went under) and cause both sides to pick up the pieces and try to put humpty dumpty together again.

Then again there seems to be enough lack of intellect in the freshmen congressional class for them to try to take their marbles and go home and blame the other side. Could go either way.

I don't think we have but a choice but to try and back Obama who is trying to provide a (political) rationality to solving the problems that confront us. You are attempting to provide and ideal rationality (solutions that would fix the problems) without factoring in the political calculus that is necessary to solve these equations.
