My opinion is that government spending is out of control, and when you give them more revenue they will simply blow it. Our system of government provides a perverse incentive trap, in which Congress is motivated to spend without bound.
The only way I can see to stop them from destroying the country is to starve them of funds until they are forced to stop. The sooner that happens, the better. People like Greenspan and and David Brooks, apparently, are of the opinion Congress can exercise self-control. I do not believe they can because the incentive is to not do so.
Thus, I would oppose ANY measure that would increase government revenue by a nickel. I think most people would gladly pay more taxes to reduce our debt. But I do not want to be a provider of that perverse incentive.
I would cut off EVERY nickel of revenue tomorrow and let the chips fall. Nothing would please me more than a shut down of Washington DC, including the House, the Senate, and all but a skeleton crew at the WH. I would fund the military and and commitments to Medicare and SS during the transition ONLY. DHS, EPA, etc., all would be without any source of funds at all, with the objective to be killing unessential agencies. Government employees have sucked the blood of the taxpayers long enough, and they need to fend for themselves like I've done for the last 35 years.
That is my opinion. I know, it is simplistic. But that's beside the point. |
