I agree with you. The government has no business dictating which product wins. It's equally exasperating to me that the government feels the need to make laws like this. If they'd butt out, then the free market will obsolesce incandescents and eventually CFLs as well.

I too am surprised that the EPA isn't even more stringent with CFLs, given their pollution factor. I'll be honest with you, I don't know what my wife does to dispose of these bulbs. But I know she's pretty environmentally friendly and is big into recycling. So I'll ask her what she does with the CFLs.
