Well, it's also childish to be so anti-technology. I totally understand the frustration against our interventionist government. I too don't like any of that.

However, this country is undergoing a revolution in lighting and in battery technology for automobiles. Neither of those things should be dismissed as pipe dreams. If successful, they have the potential to do a lot of good for this country's energy independence. Everyone on this thread should be rooting for those technologies.

And btw, our government is equally, if not more so, interventionist when it comes to oil subsidies and favorable laws that spur the use of oil products. So where's the outrage against that?

That's what gets me. Most so-called free market folks and conservatives are only for free markets and conservation when it comes to renewable energy. But when you try to apply those same principles to oil, they come up with all sorts of reasons why we need oil tax breaks and support from the military to secure our oil supplies. That is an infuriating double standard.

What we need are more centrists who seek practical ideas and policies, not ideologically driven ones. Anyone in their right mind SHOULD be for free market driven approaches to fulfilling our energy needs and uses and should embrace policies that allow for all forms of energy sources and production techniques, and which let the market decide which ultimately wins free of subsidies and military intervention.
