IMO, as n when a government ceases to be afraid of the people it rules over, the ruled people are in dire straits n imminent danger.

What the universal suffrage republic system has done is to allow the people to believe that they are somehow however unlikely in charge, just because they get to chuck out one group of evil cretins and herald in another cabal of rotten morons.

People want to believe that make-belief democracy can short circuit the inevitable need for revolution even as the founding fathers warned against such unfounded n less-than-wise notions, just as folks wants to believe that central banks can short circuit booms-busts.

Many shall learn much, then fall, so that a few can rise.

Best to prepare for revolution of the old fashioned variety, a safer bet.
