Speaking of ghosts, I might have encountered one at this place.

I had no advance knowledge of its reputation before I stayed there, I was just passing through and liked the look of it.

I was standing in the lobby looking at artwork on the wall when suddenly a strong scent of lilacs came over me, then vanished as quickly as it appeared. I commented on it to the desk clerk and she got all excited and told me I was very lucky to have that happen, "Mary" had just brushed by me. Mary is the wife of the former owner and ran the place for awhile.

Of course I was a little skeptical, so I began examining the walls and ceiling for pinholes that a confederate may have sprayed an atomizer from. Didn't find anything and I began thinking that if the scent had been from an atomizer it would have lingered and dissipated slowly, this had come up suddenly and disappeared suddenly, and was very strong for a brief moment. Plus, the clerk became a nervous wreck after that. I was walking down the hall and almost collided with her as she came around a corner - she screamed and just about jumped out of her skin. Then a few minutes later I hear her car start and she peels out of the driveway - leaving me there with no other hotel employees and no other guests. A little strange, to say the least. :)

I was convinced I had an encounter with a ghost and visited Mary's grave the next morning, just to commune. For about 2 weeks I believed in ghosts, then things began to wane. Now I'm back to being skeptical again. :)
