I think it would be better for the country in the long run--to have a shocking market collapse in the short run. It would be a wakeup call for those politicians who do not think there are real world consequences to what they do and would get people focused on real world solutions. Keep in mind that after the Lehman collapse and a 700 point Dow plunge a deal (AIG bailout etc) was in place almost overnite.
