Iomega sets sights on cameras, PDAs

By

Roy, Utah - Iomega Corp. is extending its removable-cartridge technology to compact products like cameras with Clik, a compact disk that stores 40 Mbytes. Clik drives measure 2.1 x 2.0 x 0.08 inches, weigh 2.0 ounces, and are small enough to fit into a camera, PDA and other battery-powered handheld products. The drives will cost less than $100 in OEM quantities, while media will cost around $10 when the drives become available in the second half of next year. A handful of camera and PDA makers, many of whom already ship products that use flash memory, are endorsing the technology. Clik, which will compete with removable flash products, has a shock resistance rating of 100 g's.
