Company Press Release Wireless Access and JP Systems Offer Two-Way Messaging Solution for the PalmPilot Sending and Receiving Email Now Easier for Mobile Professionals SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 17, 1997--Glenayre Technologies Inc. announced today that the AccessLink two-way data messaging pager, when paired with One Touch application software and cable from JP Systems Inc., allows a mobile professional to connect the AccessLink to the PalmPilot for two-way messaging. This connection, utilizing the SkyTel 2-Way network, provides users with the ability to send and receive messages between Internet email addresses, and one-way and two-way pagers from the PalmPilot. Additionally, users can also access third party Internet information services.
''The PalmPilot is a very popular standalone organizer, but as such does not have wireless messaging capabilities,'' said Greg Reyes, president of Glenayre's Wireless Access Group. ''Together with JP Systems we can extend the capabilities of the PalmPilot so users can stay in touch while they stay organized.'' Reyes also stated the Wireless Access/JP System/SkyTel solution is the first two-way paging capability available for the PalmPilot.
''The One Touch paging/email solution has the communication capabilities of a two-way pager and user interface of PalmPilot,'' said Prabhakar Guniganti, president of JP Systems Inc. ''JP Systems has partnered with a great team including Wireless Access, SkyTel & Palm Computing to accomplish this highly flexible wireless messaging solution.''
The AccessLink two-way data messaging pager is a belt-top device that operates for approximately three weeks on one AA battery. It provides users with the ability to send, receive and reply to email messages as well as numeric and alphanumeric pages. Messages can be responded to by selecting one of several ''canned'' messages or by creating a custom reply. This is accomplished by utilizing the pager's virtual keyboard. PalmPilot users can leverage the Graffiti feature of their organizer to compose and respond to their messages. The AccessLink pager is available through SkyTel's Skywriter service and MCI's Interactive Paging Service.
One Touch software and accompanying cable will be available in January through JP Systems. The AccessLink pager is available now through SkyTel at 1-800/2WAY-889, or through your local MCI business representative. Additional ordering information can be found at www.skytel.com or www.mci.com .
