[Word...Words...Words...]

Schmedley...commercial is definitely for profit service. However, the use of multi-year does not elate me for the lack of the word...EXCLUSIVE.

GTE has the right to use any xDSL vendor they want to. Furthermore, looking at the architecture of the GTE CLEC rollout here, it is Ethernet based. Ethernet based ADSL does not scale well, pointing to the perspective that an ATM based ADSL rollout may come later. That means another vendor could easily be selected. As I stated on the WSTL thread, 1,000 users to me is another covert word for "trial". Lets see how well this does in the real world. If you want to see a good PR announcement for an xDSL rollout, well, look at PairGain in Phoenix. Multiple COs, thousands of customers. That is what I was hoping for here. Sadly, Mr Seamens disappoints once again.

There is one more item all this PR biz has taught me. We will not see mass rollout of consumer based ADSL Internet service for a long time. No consumer (short of a very rich consumer) will pay $125 a month for ADSL based Internet Service. A quick survey on this thread could prove that. Therefore, these little mini-rollouts will continue without much consumer penetration. I guess we are still at least a year or two away from seeing prices targeted at the consumer market. Give me my $40 a month cable modem any time. I'll take ADSL when my telco can give it to me for roughly that same price range.
