That splintering sound you hear is CA breaking in two. Riverside officials approve summit to discuss splitting California Wednesday, July 13, 2011 RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KABC) -- The idea that would turn California into two separate states appears to be gaining some momentum. The Riverside County Board of Supervisors has given unanimous approval to a summit that would explore splitting California into two states. The proposal would have 13, predominately conservative, counties break away and create the state of South California. That would not include Los Angeles County. Supervisor Jeff Stone is pushing the idea, saying California has become too big to govern and Sacramento takes too much of Southern California's money. The Board of Supervisors voted for the summit with the stipulation that no public funds be spent on the secessionist movement. Proponents could turn to private donors for the funds.
