Urbanization of populaces is the key. In China and elsewhere. The urbanization creates a mass of newly-urban that hates the country side.

This first batch of countryside people, the newly urbanites that moved to the cities, is important to be studied. China today is going through this but the Europeans and the Americans were urbanized too long ago to remember how it is. Thus to profit from China urban move, one must know how people gets to become urban.

I was a newly-urban back in the 70s. I know who they are and how they behave and the impact they make in society.

They are not open mid people and clash with the established urban masses previously urbanized.

Newly urban crave for simplicity. They like to have dictators and military juntas. In their simple minds, power to keep order is good. See Latin America post WW II.
See Africa today.

They go to school but hold strongly beliefs that is taught in the family. They don't see school as a education for life but a diploma to get higher income. Thus they absorb education just enough to get a credential to advance.

Now when the shirtless are getting shirts all over the world, understanding how the newly urban behave is a must.
