Here in Vancouver we are following up the worst spring ever with an equally poor summer; day after day of clouds and rain and lucky to hit 20 degrees. But in spite of this my raspberries are in full swing, albeit a month late, but I need the the long range forecast for a nice August and September to be accurate to pull my tomatoes through.

A friend gave me a cutting of a grapevine this spring and I stuck it in the ground, only to see the little leaves already there turn black and fall off. But I left it in the ground and finally the other day there was suddenly new vigorous growth. Next year I am going to have cut back one of my blackberry vines to provide space for it to grow.

I have been watching new seasons (to me) of two stalwart shows. The 4th season of Murdoch Mysteries is showing on the local channel from whence it originates, and continues to be charming and enjoyable. The 2nd season of Justified seems to me to be both better and worse than the 1st season, so I hope the writers can pull it off to make the former tendency win out. After Justified is done, I will start in on the 2nd season of Treme; looking forward to hearing more of that great music.

And now off to pick some arugula for spicing up dinner; it hasn;t minded the weather at all.
