The foundation of existentialism and Zen is a certain amount of base knowledge. When that knowledge base is reached, a critical mass occurs and one can see either Existentilism or Zen, whichever, or both.

This is why Zen masters cannot show Zen to the students, or professors cannot explain existentialism to students. They are both abstract concepts which one can either see or not see.

Like relativity.
