BLAINE, WA. (NEWS1130) - A Washington State man is holding a protest at the Peace Arch Border today to draw attention to what he claims is profiling of Muslims by the US government.

Jeff Siddiqui, a real estate agent in Lynnwood, tells News1130 he has heard dozens of horrific stories from Muslim-Americans who say they are being unfairly treated because of their religion.

He says he's even had trouble at the border heading from Canada back into the US. "The customs officer said: 'Do you have anything in your van that you don't want me to find?' And I said: 'What do you mean?' And he said: 'Like terrorists? Guns? Grenades under the seats?' They wouldn't dream of doing that if I were a white guy with blond hair and blue eyes."

He explains the rally is designed to give people a safe place to voice their concerns. "There have been people who have been held at gunpoint, detained for hours on end and then told they are free to go. And only because they are Muslims."

Siddiqui admits things have gotten progressively worse since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. He says the civil rights of Muslims are being ignored by all levels of the US government and hopes this rally sends a strong message.

Siddiqui is a Pakistani-American who has lived in the US since 1974.

Today's event runs until 4 p.m.
