Good point. I am sure SRV wanted to rub it in, while LWN just wants to forget.

Our library subscribes to Canada's Globe and Mail. In one recent issue, SRV president was quoted as saying there would be no bid for LWN while Loewen management was not friendly to a merger. The recent group that met in Toronto to discuss what they should to push LWN into a merger apparently was made up of several large pension fund managers-and involved other bigwigs by conference call. Apparently, a very serious meeting-though no one was talking specifics.

Somehow, I don't think Loewen management will ever be friendly to a merger. Also, a recent Wall Street Journal article I believe stated that Mr. Loewen would own appoximately 22% of LWN stock, if he exercises all available stock options, rights, etc.

The loss of Arbor has just got to kill Mr. Loewen; he has his sights on that firm for years. From what I've read in the past, Arbor is quite a gem of a firm with excellent locations, chiefly in Ontario.
