Apple did no such thing. Actual sales to end users were much less. Inventory ballooned to 6 million. NO GROWTH over Q2 if you account for inventory increase and that it was a full quarter for Verizon iPhone... all the while Android activates/sells to actual users 50 mil per quarter and growing 4.4% PER WEEK. And the actual Android numbers are much higher as they only include google activations.
