7/22/11 Contest Update
Acting as if a debt ceiling deus ex machina was in the cards, investors loosened their purse strings and bought stocks most of the week. At Friday’s close, the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 17.02% YTD (vs. up 15.02% YTD a week ago) and the Contest median was up 19.09% YTD (vs. up 17.83% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 7.76% YTD (vs. up 5.16% YTD a week ago).
ICGN’s “takeunder” by Pfizer hacked a chunk off GENE’s portfolio (now up a mere 67.92 % YTD), but a good move by ONTY (the week’s No. 3 top gainer) helped it keep the lead. ROCKY’s portfolio (up 58.62% YTD) and MCBIO’s portflio (up 56.73% YTD) took over the No. 2 & No.3 spots.
At Friday's close, 33 of the 38 Contest portfolios remained in the black, while 21 of the 38 were beating the NBI.
