So where are the pictures of the bowling tournament? Where's the summary of what happened?
I have to say that I am so blessed to be surrounded with an incredible family. I called JXM from inside the car after I'd been hit and before I knew what was going on. He said he'd stop everything and be right down - except that would have been an hour, so I told him to wait. This was while he was in the middle of some intense business stuff. He was still willing to drop everything. However, comma....
My ex-sister-in-law worked in the building next to where I got in the accident and she was right there within 5 minutes - word spread that I'd been in an accident. She got the maintenance guys to get the groceries out of my car and move them to hers - and then she drove me home after calling AAA to tow the car away. There were also about 50 friends I used to work with who showed up on the scene.
Her daughter, my niece, has been advising me about my foot and hand because she's gone through extensive physical therapy for a broken foot after falling during a hike at Yosemite 9 months and 2 surgeries ago.
My nephew drove me over to the auto repair lot to recover all the rest of the stuff that had been left in the car, because the insurance company is going to total it. Very sad about that - I loved that car - although it's been telling me it wanted to go night-night for some months now - air conditioning problems.
Those family members who haven't been giving me a hard time on Facebook have all called - to the point that I can hardly get any work done. And then there's the emails.
Of course, none of them, except JXM, is on SI so they won't know how much I appreciate the effort they've made to help me out. Makes me tear up to know how incredibly lucky I am. And they wouldn't want to hear it.
I should explain something: My family belongs to the House of No Sympathy. Get yourself in trouble and you can count on getting a bunch of insults lobbed in your direction. It makes you have to laugh at yourself for the situation you're in. It's an Irish thing. I got a modicum of sympathy for losing my car and getting banged up - a thimble full - but then the jabs started. I'll give you an example: One brother responded to my saying that the wreck had to be towed away, responded with: "Were you referring to yourself or your car?" |
