A couple of very cool (not temperature related) stories about the Icelandic economy in the go-go years in the New Yorker. Apparently Viking heritage and history of fishing led Icelanders to believe that they had some sort of special talent for banking. And, well, they bought a lot of toxic US mortgage backed securities. And their economy collapsed. Yeah. Subscription required (which I have) to read the whole articles but you could probably find them in your local public library. Worth the effort.
