I wonder if inside polling tells Boehner and the repubs that a Balanced Budget amendment is popular with the American people? I know it is with me.

Democrats and many economists say that requiring the government to balance its books each year would prevent it from responding to recessions or emergencies.

So put in a provision that addresses recessions or emergencies or anything else that opponents oppose. Have an open and honest debate in congress. Isn't that how the system is supposed to work?
