Juniper’s Glum Outlook Socks Stock, Sector

Juniper Networks’ lousy results is making waters rough for the networking sector.

Post-close yesterday, Juniper reported an 11% decline in second-quarter profit and provided a dim outlook for the third quarter. Juniper’s shares are off 20% at $24.97.

Among other networkers, Cisco is down 3% to $15.78, Alcatel Lucent is off nearly 8% at $4.84, F5 Networks is down 3% at $96.07, Riverbed Tech is off 8% $28.38 and JDS Uniphase is down 5% at 14.26.

Following its earnings, Wall Street analysts scurried to get out of the way. Oppenheimer, William Blair, ThinkEquity, Goldman Sachs and Citigroup were among firms cutting their ratings of Juniper.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average is off 0.8% at 12399.54 and the Nasdaq Composite is down 1.7% at 2791.25.
