Odd to the future
With the refinement of voice recognition, enhanced processing power, and a little imagination, the concept of "2001, a computer enhanced life", is probably not too far away.
I imagine myself sitting in my favorite chair, talking to my computer, as it now has microphones in each room to better hear "my commands"....
"Computer", please tabulate all of Paul Engel's previous posts for the past six months and determine the accuracy of his projected equipment roll out dates with the actual roll out dates. If his average is within two weeks, send him a Christmas card, if not remove from "Peoplemarks".
Oh, his projections are within 3/4 of a day, and my RoR has gone up and my tax bill has doubled on average. Yes, send Paul a bill for the extra taxes I pay then, he bears responsibility.
"Computer", I'm done leaving the house for the day, please activate the security alarm system. I understand those displaced AMD execs are out prowling the neighborhood.
"Computer", adjust the energy management module of the furnace to heat up 20 minutes earlier in the morning, I need to look at SI before going to work.
"Computer", please do a web search, looking for any information related to 'neurological implants of additional memory', I seem to keep forgetting the wife's anniversary.
Oh, yes, we were divorced, please do the search anyway, make that a high priority .
"Computer", please do a search of the those companies with growth rates exceeding their p/e ratio by 3%.
"Computer", please mask out any SI posts with the phrase "Cyrix rules" included in the body.
Oh, there are no longer any companies or subsidiaries by that name...never mind.
"Computer", please look up Andy Groves home address. We need to send him a Christmas gift and maybe stop by the house for some holiday cheer.

"Computer", what is the projected date when Microsoft taxes and/or DOJ fines will pay off the national debt?
Oh, we have a surplus after the release of Windows 2000 and Internet Explorer 27.0.

Technologically speaking, are there any good reasons why the majority of this can't happen in the near future?
That's my vision of the next big, gotta have it, application.
Would like to hear other peoples ideas on where the future is going to lead us.
