In this day and age, 250K is not much.

Carolyn, Are we talking about the Gross or Net income which we are speaking? If we are speaking Adjustable Taxable income with all the tax right offs on small business I would say 250K (1/4 million) is a great amount especially when you are speaking with individuals who have only a Social Security check of $800 per month. I understand that the average SS check is $1,000 monthly. When I see some individuals annually writing off their new Lexus, trucks, etc. as business expenses to lower their Adjustable Taxable Income I have difficulty understanding objections to the 250K limit.
