I am not a "believer" in global warming either so I don't mind coal and natural gas plants. Especially natural gas plants are very clean and efficient. But I do mind paying huge sums to import fossil fuels from countries with a questionable political setup.

In Germany photovoltaic power is already cheaper than regular power from the grid, that drives the massive build-out of PV among private citizens. Within a decade progress in module design will result in PV being cheaper than coal and natural gas power production. Onshore wind power is already at that point.
