The German electricity grid faces instability because of too much solar power, an expert said.

The reason is for this that there are laws requiring Utility plants to purchase this generated power (typically at the highest prices) regardless of the current demand.

We have similar problems in this country with Wind power in Texas, where rural generation produces more that the current demand and the grid can't absorb the excess since we lack some long distance transmission lines from West Texas.

Also the "greens" don't want us to build these long distance transmission lines either as they will "disturb" the views from some nearby national parks.
