The 'core' portion of a position varies widely for me, often think in terms of one-third and two-thirds though ... or three quarters, core gets a higher slice the more i like it, usually as various uncertainties get resolved, but also the ability of the stock to range around, so that you're fairly sure you can get a reload for any shares you off, or a sale for what you add in excess of a holding size ... sometimes you have to hold so long to get the gains that your traders start to feel like core millstones, such is life, has a way of changing definitions on us, lol
I try not to use the term 'core' in the sense of 'position percentage of portfolio' because that would confuse matters, but some do ... in this sense i [almost] never let anything get beyond one-eighth of pf by cost basis, or one quarter by current value when something runs well ... have to really like something to let it go that high, most speckies top out at one-sixteenth by cost, that's about six per cent and even that is above average, it's not hard to keep their individual levels down because there are so many of them lol, for instance the Yukon plays probably add up to near a quarter of total pf but that's split between eight or ten tickers ... speaking of which, just noticed crg.to went off at 1.00 again today, forgot to have a bid in, kinda like the 1.01s ... haven't got enough quotes pages room for all these |
