7/29/11 Contest Update It was a lousy week for stocks, especially biotechs, as howls by Tea Partiers that the party is over jacked up the fear level of already jittery investors another notch. At Friday’s close, the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 11.38% YTD (vs. up 17.02% YTD a week ago) and the Contest median was up 10.44% YTD (vs. up 19.09% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 3.90% YTD (vs. up 7.76% YTD a week ago). GENE’s portfolio (up 60.45 % YTD) lost some ground but remained in the lead. MCBIO’s portfolio (up 49.68% YTD) slipped into second place while ROCKY’s portflio (up 48.59% YTD) fell back to the No. 3 spot. At Friday's close, 29 of the 38 Contest portfolios were the black, while 17 of the 38 were beating the NBI. Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week (foreign stock prices are not converted to US$ in these two tables). Portfolio adjustments: None Have a deficit-free weekend biotechies! (All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
