Am I missing something?

Far be it from me to make that determination.

NFLX does have a great advantage in that it has some kind of interface to their streaming system on just about every device out there. And APPLE will not have, because they want it all -- they're not going to pay TIVO a nickel to have an Apple connection, I'd bet.

NFLX's streaming has some really good properties IMO, particularly in the area of how it handles the variability in bandwidth. But the content leaves a lot to be desired even with all the big dollar expenditures.

I could be totally wrong, of course, but I think when Apple rolls out TV we're going to see a near-perfect user interface that is really attractive to ordinary users. Netflix has a decent UI, but it isn't anything like what CAN be done. It will be familiar to the existing Apple user base, and they'll flock to it.

Apple hasn't always been successful at this, of course -- AMZN's Kindle "ecosystem" is still far better than anything Apple has come up with to date for books. But one can envision seamless integration of on-demand video of all kinds -- network shows, movies, etc. -- with local caching to deal with bandwidth issues so that the quality is astounding.

It could be really stiff competition for NFLX that would create a persistent erosion of NFLX's user base.

Of course, it is all speculation, so NFLX may end up at 400 before it is over ;)
