Mak: Aaaaaaah, the Alias/Wavefront purchase circa '95.
What was it??? $500 MILLION. Fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-FIVE-HUNDRED-MILLION!?!?!

Didn't understand it then. Don't understand it now. Stock swap or not, that's a lot of dough (10x REVENUES!) for two obscure, incompatible software companies separated by 3,000 miles and 8,000 years of culture.

OK. It's been two years now. Will someone -ANYONE!- please tell me why owning Alias AND Wavefront makes sense for SGI??? And, while you're at it: How much do you think Alias/Wavefront would fetch on the open market today?
