Tulvio - An X-ray stepper costs around $7-8 million. JMAR's point source was quoted at $2 mil. at the annual meeting. I think you are mixing "apples and oranges". A synchrotron would cost $25 mil, plus if you equipped all 20 stepper "sites", that would be another $140-160 mil. (give or take a few mil.) Total synchrotron system cost - about $165-185, fully equipped with 20 steppers. Total JMAR system cost - about $10-11 million ($2 mil. for point source plus $8-9 mil. for the ONE stepper needed.) You said:>>>To service 18-20 steppers would require $72-to-$80 mil in source cost alone. Am I missing something?<<< Yes - The synchrotron (@$25 million) IS THE SOURCE for all 20 steppers connected to it. You wouldn't put point source into a synchrotron -- they are two SEPARATE AND DIFFERENT SOURCES.
