$2 trillion in long-term spending cuts.

Current deficit is 14 trillion, more or less, right?

And current expenditures still exceed revenues, so we are still increasing the debt.

So how does 2 trillion in long term (meaning they'll cut later, just not right now) spending cuts help reduce the current 14 trillion (and growing) deficit?

I suppose they have to start somewhere but I just don't see how this accomplishes much.
